Thursday 22 October 2009 - Inward Mail Centres and Networks will strike
Friday 22 October 2009 - Delivery Offices will strike.
Consequences
1. The strike is UK wide. Therefore the whole of the country is affected.
2. On Thursday all Post within Royal Mail’s Retail network will not be collected or transported. However, as a DSA operator we will still continue to route mail into Royal Mail’s Inward Mail Centres. This will involve us crossing the picket lines at Royal Mail sites. We do this on a regular basis when hot spot industrial action takes place, and we did it during the last round of national industrial action 2 years ago.
3. Once your mail is in the IMC there will still be some operational sortation being undertaken by Royal Mail management. This will normally support mail that can be mechanically sorted.
4. On Friday your mail will be delivered to Delivery Offices. However, it will not be delivered as there will be industrial action. It will be delivered on Saturday. Given that there will be a backlog it will probably be delivered on Monday.
Benefits of Secured Mail
1. As a client of Secured Mail and using the wholesale postal market, your mailing campaigns will be dealt with earlier than if you were a Royal Mail Retail customer. This is due to Royal mail’s agreed processes for handling mail in sequence at IMC’s. As we cross the picket lines during industrial action your mail is at the local area quicker and will therefore be sorted sooner.
